Yes . even the mere thought of donating blood creates powerful good karma. However you need to meet certain requirements before donating blood

•   You have to be between the ages of 18-55
•   Need to be over 50kgs
•   Need to be a healthy person.
•  There needs to be a four month interval since your last blood   donation

If the above mentioned requirements are satisfied:

You can take the initial steps to become a blood donor. However you will be asked to answer certain questions to qualify you as a blood donor.

Then you will have a private discussion with a doctor to certify your eligibility. When you have passed the relevant pre screening tests, then you will be given the meritorious opportunity of saving a life, by way of donating blood.

Absolutely not. That is why you will be filling out all forms in private, and all discussion  that will be conducted by the doctor will be done in private. The doctor in mention is bound to keep  doctor patient privacy , as stated by the requirements of his profession. Therefore you are given the opportunity to ask the doctor conducting the exam any questions or concerns freely.

That would not be acceptable at all. This is not suitable for an individual who follows and respects the teachings of the supreme Buddha. You would be breaking a precept as well. This would also lead to putting the live of a blood recipient in danger as well. Therefore under no circumstance should you lie on the form you will be filling out. There many diseases that spread through blood . Apart from deadly diseases such as Aids,  Hepatitis, Malaria and other social diseases spread with the help of blood. If the donor has such diseases , there is a high probability that the recipient will contract the disease as well.

Therefore that is why a pre test is conducted to very if you have such diseases or not.  The goal of this project to sustain a life of an ill patient. therefore do not attempt to falsify the screening application provided.  The blood that has been collected will undergo scientific testing to screen for the above mentioned diseases. Therefore people might be tempted to give blood to see if they have been exposed to such diseases. This should not be attempted at all. This would put the recipients life in serious danger. To determine if an individual has contracted this disease , the antibodies that are present in the bloodstream to fight the disease should be greater. Take for example and individual with Aids. It is hard to determine if an individual has contracted Aids in the first few months.  A mere blood test cannot determine the existence of the disease. Therefore an individual who has contracted the diseases would appear to have clean blood, thus transferring the diseases to the recipient. To prevent such incidents probing questions about an individual’s private life is asked.

IN certain months in Sri Lanka there is a very low amount of blood units collected . There in the months of April, August , September the patients who are in need of blood are put at risk.
